Executive Summary Initiatives These initiatives are with partner organizations and individuals that work together to increase community participation in the child welfare system. The fund is used to raise charitable dollars to support children, families, and CPS. Monetary donations of any size are welcome and go directly to help Travis County children in foster care or who have been or are at risk of child abuse or neglect. Donors may write a check to Safe Kids Fund and will receive a written acknowledgment for their tax-deductible contribution. Adopt a Visitation Room When children are removed from their parents and placed in the care of CPS, it is important that they have opportunities to maintain relationships with their families. To facilitate these meetings, CPS offices have special visitation rooms for children and their families to connect.

Reports can be filed for people who live alone or with relatives or who are residents in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, hospitals, or group homes. We receive and investigate reports of abuse, neglect or exploitation of adults. We receive and investigate reports of adults "at risk" of abuse, neglect or exploitation. We assess for service needs and determine whether the adult in question needs protective services. We may provide case management services. Adult Protective Services is a free service. Anyone can report a suspected incident of abuse, neglect or exploitation.

Adult Protective Services About Lucas County Department of Job and Family Services are required to investigate and evaluate all reports of suspected abuse, neglect and exploitation of adults age 60 and older. These adults may be handicapped due to aging or they may have physical or mental impairments which prevent them from providing for their own care and protection. As the elderly population increases, reports of abuse, neglect and exploitation increase. Abuse means the infliction upon an adult by one's self or others of injury, unreasonable confinement, intimidation, or cruel punishment with resulting physical harm, pain or mental anguish. Physical abuse includes pushing, hitting, slapping, pinching and other ways of physically harming a person.
